Eton Mess
This delicious dessert consists of chopped strawberries and crushed meringue, all coated in whipped cream.
I have been told that the dish was invented when someone dropped a strawberry pavlova, but other explanations of its origin also exist. It is traditionally served at Eton College's annual prize-giving.
A particular favourite of novice cooks, who can make cracked, broken or miss-shaped meringues and yet still produce a perfect dish!
